Timeshare Relief - Swine Flu and Canceling Your Timeshare Visit
65No Relief for Swine Flu and Timeshare Industry Condition
Absence of Swine Flu Relief & Timeshare Owners' Payment
With the outbreak of the contagious swine flu, traveling is restrained around the globe. Mexico, where the virus started is greatly affected as various industries have frozen their operations. The timeshare industry for example is flooded with disappointed timeshare owners who wanted relief from their unfortunate canceled timeshare visits.
If you own a timeshare and wants to cancel your scheduled visit, what should you do? If you have a confirmed exchange with RCI for example, you might be hit hard. Well unless they have some sympathy and re-credit your week back without restrictions.
Exchange companies have established measure when cases like this occur. They have grown wiser from their experience in the past when hurricane Wilma hit Cancun and Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005. They have learned from their leniency and this time requires vacation insurances for this kind of situations.
Since RCI is the given example, let's take a look at their cancellation policy. It states that: “Any change to your confirmed travel dates constitutes cancellation of your exchange and is subject to our standard cancellation guidelines. When cancellation is made 61 days or more prior to your confirmed travel dates, $129 USD ($137 CAD) of your original exchange fee is retained by RCI. Should cancellation be requested 60 days or fewer prior to travel, no portion of your exchange fee is refundable. However, in either case, your deposited week will be eligible for a new exchange.”
The policy goes to show that cancellation is only applicable if the given situations can be forecasted. If hurricanes and tropical storms can be expected, flu outbreaks are not. Either way, both mishap cause burden for timeshare owners. When inevitable calamities destroy timeshare resorts, timeshare owners carry on the burden of paying hefty special assessments fees and when outbreak such as this swine flu arise, owners' life is at risk. Unless timeshare owners acquires timeshare relief, they will forever deal with this burden.

It is termed as vacation ownership because it provides you ownership of the property or location while relaxing and enjoying your vacation. But ownership of this property is not solely yours; you are sharing it with other people.
Swine flu is really alarming! You can't trade the safety of your family for a nice vacation. Are there ways to recover the maintenance cost of your timeshare property if you haven't use it?
Are there any options for timeshare ownership to have an allowance for the usage of your unit? Are there options like you can use it in another time if you miss one of your scheduled vacations? I hope new timeshare developers would consider this as an option.
Lucky for those who can reschedule their timeshare usage. But I doubt, most owners cannot.
It's nice to know that there are exchange policies that allows the owner to reschedule its timeshare week if some situation that is out of his/her control might happen like the swine flu outbreak.
For others, they are relieved if they cancel their vacation because they will spend money anymore. This is not the case for timeshare ownership because the owner still has to pay the annual maintenance cost either he/she uses the timeshare or not.
For some, owning a timeshare is an advantage in cases like swing flu outbreak because they feel secured in their timeshare properties than nay other type of vacationing packages.
It's good to hear about the cooling off period of the timeshare ownership. In this way, timesharing is not that misfortune after all.
Yes. Cooling off period provides those timeshare owners who were just stunned by the timeshare sales presentation to cancel their contract.
Timeshare ownership is really a preplanned vacation. Anything that might distract that plan is out of the legal agreement of timeshare deals.
Less vulnerable to economic downturn than conventional lodging, so flexible it's a home away from home no matter the location timeshare appeals to nesters full and empty, promising a stable, virtual community at at time actual community seems shaky.
Swine Flu really scare timeshare owners.
Are there any considerations in times like these. If travel has been declared as risky, would the timeshare developers give considerations to the owners like rescheduling their vacation week.
I'm glad that timeshare companies give consideration to cancel the preplanned vacation if the situation can be forecasted like storm or hurricane. However, swine flu is not this case.
In the case of swine flu, the national government did not really ordered to ban a travel in a certain area. They did not even mention places which had been affected mostly. They just advise to make extra caution and discourages people to travel during those days. So, the timeshare developers did not consider rescheduling those who canceled their supposedly timeshare week.
With the outbreak of swine flu, it's at your own risk if you still travel. But most people were alarmed and get discouraged to travel especially last summer where it's supposed to be a good time for vacation. Timeshare owners are still oblige to pay the fees even if they cancel their vacation week.
I would just like to emphasize that the World Health Organization had raised the alert level of swine flu. It had even identified places where this is pandemic. I think the timeshare resorts should be aware of this also to give consideration for the timeshare owners who canceled their travel.
It is unfortunate to find out that your timeshare isn't fun anymore because of raising maintenance fees. But if this Swine flu bothers the timeshare owners, this is another huge problem.
